Katelyn the Doula/The VBAC Education Course

From uncertainty and overwhelm to clarity and confidence

Your path to an empowered birth after caesarean

If VBAC preparation is starting to feel more like a full time job you never trained for, it's not just you!

Many women find themselves drowning in advice, strategies, checklists, saved instagram posts, half finished notes taken from a podcast episode, and random research articles bookmarked in their browser.

And while all of that information can be helpful, it can also quickly send you panicking and wondering if you need to become a certified expert in the field just to push a baby out of your vagina.

The VBAC Education Course brings you back to what truly supports a strong, confident VBAC journey.

Instead of feeling like you need to do everything, you’ll understand what genuinely makes a difference, and how to prepare for your VBAC in a way that leaves you feeling confident, capable, and free to connect to your own instincts as a mother.

Stop worrying about missing something crucial

And start your path to an empowered birth after caesarean

"Katelyn has distilled her comprehensible coverage of birth and navigating mainstream maternity care into highly accessible info for birthing women and their support people."

- Victoria, VBAC mum and participant of the VBAC Education Class in person workshop

I've been where you are

After my first baby was born via caesarean, I was shattered.

I became consumed with my need for a VBAC and was desperate for any and every bit of information that would ensure my next baby was born vaginally.

When that birth ended in a homebirth transfer and a repeat emergency caesarean that I was wholly unprepared for, it was a geniune surprise to me to learn that everything I'd done to prepare myself for this VBAC had also meant for an empowered birth, even when it took a completely different path to what I'd prepared for.

While disappointment and grief lingered, my overwhelming feelings were of power and triumph. While my first caesarean broke me, my second taught me that empowered birth was so much more than pushing a baby out of your vagina. But it also humbled me, and exposed what I'd neglected to face or acknowledge ahead of that birth, and those lessons informed my approach to my third baby's birth.

That third birth is what really lit a fire for this course to come together and be released into the world (after recording the content more than two years ago!) Another planned homebirth. Another repeat emergency caesarean. The birth that showed me the depths of my strength, and the power of my connection to my body and intuition. And reminded me, more than ever before, what truly makes for a positive and empowered birth.

This course is a distillation of all the research, knowledge and experience I have absorbed across my own birth journeys, as well as the many beautiful VBACs I've supported as a doula and as a VBAC mentor.

No course can promise the outcome of a birth…

...but how you prepare can profoundly shape how you experience it.

"If you are lucky enough to have Katelyn in your life in any capacity be it birthing doula, postpartum doula, professionally or friend she will fill you with a sense of positivity and strength you didn’t know existed."

- Latara, Birth Support Client

What information is in the course?

The course includes the following chapters:

  • What You Need To Know About VBAC

  • Our Stories

  • Fears and Anxieties

  • Having a Better Birth

  • Support

  • Informed Decision Making

  • Basic Birth Physiology

  • Labour and Birth Skills

Over the course of these chapters, we delve into the facts and stats and research around VBAC so you have the information that you need to make decisions on your journey.

We look at VBAC from a physical and emotional perspective, ways to prepare ourselves and the different factors that can impact the outcome of our births - physical, emotional, and spiritual.

All the information you get in this course is to help you make informed decisions about your care on your VBAC journey that will impact what happens and how you feel about it. To know not only what decisions you want to make, but also how to make those decisions heard and understood in the maternity system.

What's NOT in the course

This course is not a guide to VBAC preparation.

It's not a 'how to have a VBAC' or 'teach me to have a VBAC'.

It's not going to give you a thousand different things you can do to prepare your body and mind for a VBAC.

It's not going to tell you what alternative health practices are going to put you in the best position for a VBAC.

The course is VBAC preparation at its foundation.

I understand the desire to want a checklist - I was that woman once too.

But what I've learned on my personal journeys and in supporting many women during their VBAC journeys, is that what's 'most important' in VBAC preparation is deeply nuanced and will vary greatly from woman to woman. It depends on your individual journey, mindset, body, lifestyle, and circumstances.

However, individual VBAC preparation is something we can discuss in mentoring after the course if that is something you want to cover.

"The class covered so many things about vbacs from addressing mine and my partners fears, to different research, to how to prepare having a vbac."

- Elise, VBA2C mum and participant of the VBAC Education Class in person workshop

Who is this course for?

Perfect for you if you're planning a VBAC and:

  • You're brand new to the VBAC journey and want a super solid starting point, or;

  • You've been planning your VBAC for a long while and are starting to get lost in a sea of bookmarked and saved pages and posts

  • You want to arm yourself with information to boost your confidence, without becoming overwhelmed

  • You want strategies to help you feel in control of your VBAC journey

  • You find it difficult to know what to put your time and energy into and what not to worry about

  • You want to reclaim your power and have a better birth regardless of the outcome

Not for you if:

  • You want me to guarantee you a VBAC

I can't and won't. Simple as that.

  • You want to know every last thing about VBAC

I don't want to give you every single thing I know about VBAC, because it doesn't serve you to be overwhelmed with facts and statistics. This course contains the critical information, the stuff that is really going to help you to know.

  • You want a VBAC checklist or how-to guide or detailed VBAC preparation instructions

As mentioned above, the VBAC journey is nuanced and every woman is different. What this course aims to do is show you the most important factors to consider on your VBAC journey, the relevant facts and stats you need to know, and help you to find further support in areas that you feel are relevant for you.

"She [Katelyn] played a key role in my education about birth choices prior to birth which allowed me to feel empowered and informed along my birth journey."

- Meaghan, Birth Support Client

Frequently asked questions

What you might be wondering about The VBAC Education Course

Is there an ideal time to do this course?

This course is useful at any stage from preconception to moments before you go into labour. To get the most out of it, it's ideal if you've got a few weeks before your guess date to review all the information and put your learnings into practice. There are plenty of benefits to doing the course prior to conceiving as well, but you might want to revisit certain parts once pregnant to keep them fresh in mind.

How long will this realistically take me to get through?

There's just over 2.5 hours of video content within the chapters, but there are additional activities and journalling prompts along the way as well. Depending on how much time you allocate to complete those activities, it's probably around 3-4 hours total time to get through everything.

Do I need VBAC Education to get a VBAC?

Absolutely NOT! There are plenty of women who have had amazing VBACs without doing anything at all. What this course aims to do, however, is prepare you for the hurdles you may face along the way and how to navigate them so that your VBAC journey is the most positive and empowering one it can be.

Can I connect with other women planning a VBAC who are doing the course?

Yes! There is a community for the VBAC Education Course set up exactly for this. Share your wisdom, experiences, learnings, stories, and more.

What if I find there isn't anything new for me to learn in this course?

This course has a variety of information and topics to cover, and for most people, there will be plenty of new information in here. For those who have already done a lot of research themselves, some of the course might overlap with what you've learned already, but I'm confident there will be plenty in here of use to you.

If you do purchase this course and find there's nothing of value in it for you, you are welcome to contact me within a week of purchase for a full refund.

What if I put my time and money into this course and need a caesarean anyway?

This course is built to help you on your VBAC journey, regardless of how it ends! You will find that the information, the tools, and the strategies in this course are still hugely useful in setting you up for an empowered and positive birth, even if you end up needing a caesarean (elective or emergency).

What about my partner?

There is lots of information for both the birthing woman or person and the partner! In a perfect world (difficult with other children around, I know) you'd be able to sit and watch it together, but even watching it separately, or picking parts to show your partner, will be of benefit for you both.

You don't need to try and figure it all out on your own

I did all the research, all the deep diving on my own birth journeys and while supporting VBAC women as a doula and a mentor.

I know how badly you want this birth to be better than your last - because I've been there, too.

The VBAC Education Course was created to help you focus on the parts that matter, so you can prepare for your VBAC with clarity, confidence, and trust in yourself.

There are no guarantees in birth, but how you prepare can profoundly shape how you experience it.

Don't be powerless on your VBAC journey: learn the skills and information you need to birth on your terms.
